BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team controlled the second half and the Cru rolled to a 102-79 victory over Sul Ross State Thursday in Belton. The 9
th-ranked UMHB women improve to 22-2 overall and 14-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Lobos to 5-19 overall and 3-12 in the ASC on the season.
The Cru scored the first four points of the game and opened with a 13-4 run. The lead would be 26-13 after the opening period. UMHB would push the lead to 17 early in the second quarter before Sul Ross battled back to within four points. The Cru closed the period with a 12-4 run to grab a 52-40 lead at halftime. UMHB dominated the third stanza to take the lead out to 28 points and the Lobos never got closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
Kendall Rollins led the Cru with 30 points to hit the 1,000-point scoring mark for her Cru career. Rollins also had eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Allaira Jones chipped in a career-high 23 points,
Hannah Holt added 16 and
Alicia Blackwell scored 10. Twelve different players scored for UMHB in the victory. The Cru shot 54 percent from the field as a team and out rebounded Sul Ross State 39-35 in the game.
Chandre Nunez poured in 38 points to lead the Lobos and she also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Annie Lenoir hit 5-9 from three-point range to score 17 for Sul Ross. The Lobos shot 43 percent as a team, but turned the ball over 19 times in the loss.
The Cru women will close out the regular season with a 1 pm home game against Howard Payne University on Saturday. UMHB has already clinched the ASC West Division title and will host the ASC Championship Tournament February 21-23
rd at the Mayborn Campus Center.
