Baseball swept by U.T.-Tyler

TYLER, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team had difficulty getting the offense untracked against the defending national champions as the Cru dropped both ends of a doubleheader at U.T.-Tyler Sunday afternoon. The Patriots took game one 3-0 and won game two 12-2 to improve to 4-2 on the season. UMHB drops to 3-5 on the year following the sweep.

UT Tyler got a no-hitter from Keith Long on the way to the 3-0 win in game one. UMHB only put three runners on base. Caimyn Holiday reached on an error in the third inning, Mitch Patterson reached on an error in the fifth and Holiday drew a sixth-inning walk. The Patriots scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI groundout and a run-scoring error. U.T.-Tyler added an insurance run on Kolton Forsythe's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth. That was more than enough offense as Long (1-0) struck out 11 batters in his no-hit performance. Cameron Whitman limited the Patriots to just four hits and struck out three but dropped to 1-2 on the season. Forsythe drove in two of U.T.-Tyler's three runs in the game.

UMHB led early in game two but could not hold off the Patriots in a 12-2 loss. Holiday scored on a wild pitch to give the Cru a 1-0 lead in the top of the first. U.T.-Tyler tied it on a run-scoring wild pitch in the bottom of the second. Mitch Patterson's RBI single put UMHB up 2-1 in the top of the third inning, but Tyler answered with Blake Maddox's RBI single in the bottom of the fourth. The Patriots tacked on five runs in the bottom of the sixth, a single run in the seventh and scored four more in the bottom of the eighth to end the game on the run rule. Aaron Edelmon took the loss for the Cru to fall to 1-1. He scattered eight hits and struck out three in five and two-thirds innings. Austin Schneider struck out three in three hitless innings of relief to get the win for UTT. Jackson Godoy had two of UMHB's five hits in the game. Blake Wilson had four hits and Josh Burns and Maddox added three apiece for the Patriots.

UMHB will now return home for the 2019 home opener on Tuesday. The Cru will host UT Dallas for a non-conference single game at 3 pm at Red Murff Field.
