CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team put up seven-run innings in both games as the Cru rolled to a doubleheader sweep of the University of the Ozarks Sunday in Arkansas. UMHB took game one 10-4 and won game two 14-4. The Cru improves to 4-5 overall and 4-1 in American Southwest Conference play with the sweep. The two losses drop the Eagles to 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the ASC.
UMHB exploded for seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to complete a 10-4 come-from-behind victory in game one. The Cru jumped out to a 1-0 lead on
Hannah Wolfe's RBI single in the top of the first. Ozarks tied the game in the bottom of the second, but UMHB went ahead on
Allie Dalle's RBI single in the top of the fourth. The Eagles put up three runs in the bottom of that frame for a 4-2 lead.
Emily Bounds singled home a run in the top of the sixth to cut it to 4-3 and set up the Cru's big seventh inning.
Jacqueline Kay blasted a three-run homer to give UMHB a 6-4 lead and Dalle followed with a solo shot.
Kasi Cummings added a three-run homer of her own to close out the Cru scoring. Ozarks put one runner on base in the bottom of the seventh, but
CeCe Darilek would get two groundouts and a strikeout to close it out. Dalle was 5-5 to lead UMHB's 18-hit attack and six other players had two hits apiece. Kay (1-0) struck out three batters in two and a third innings of one-hit relief to pick up her first collegiate win for the Cru.
UMHB kept the hot bats going with seven runs in the top of the first inning on the way to the game two win. Dalle led off with a home run before Kay,
Alexis Galvan,
Avery Kelly, Wolfe and
Milly Cesare hit consecutive run-scoring singles.
Kasi Cummings finished out the scoring with a sacrifice fly. The Eagles scored two in the bottom of that frame, but the Cru responded with three runs in the top of the second. Galvan had a sacrifice fly and Cesare and Dalle added RBI singles. Ozarks added two more in the bottom of the inning before Galvan's two-run double made it 12-4 in the top of the third. Dalle and Cummings drew back-to-back bases loaded walks in the top of the fifth to give the Cru a 14-4 edge and Darilek set the Eagles down in order in the bottom of the inning to end the game on the run rule. Darilek threw four scoreless innings and allowed just one hit to get the win and move to 1-0. Kelly led UMHB with three hits and four other players chipped in two hits apiece as the team rapped our 14 hits in the win. Galvan finished with four RBI in game two.
The two teams will close out the series with a 1 pm single game on Monday. The Cru will then play a three-game ASC series at LeTourneau University next weekend in Longview.
