BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team will open the 2019 season Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
 
UMHB returns 10 letterwinners from a team that finished 29-14 overall last season. Catcher Emily Bounds, infielder Kasi Cummings, utility Kourtney Cummings and outfielder Jessica Picou all return for their senior seasons with the Cru. Bounds (Moody, Moody H.S.) was a Third Team All-ASC selection last season. She batted .312 with 43 hits and 19 RBI. Kasi Cummings (Grandview, Grandview H.S.), joined Bounds on the ASC Third Team. She started in 42 games for the Cru with 12 extra-base hits and 17 runs scored. Kourtney Cummings (Grandview, Grandview H.S.), was an Honorable Mention All-ASC selection. She batted .285 in her junior season with 35 hits, 24 RBI and three home runs. Picou (Trenton, Trenton H.S.), scored 20 runs as a pinch runner last season with action in 28 games.

Junior infielder Avery Kelly, junior pitcher CeCe Darilek and sophomore pitcher/infielder Hannah Wolfe all return after All-ASC seasons in 2018. Kelly (Georgetown, Georgetown H.S.), was a Second Team All-ASC selection as a utility player for the Cru. She hit .313 on the year with 20 hits and three home runs. Darilek (Shiner, Shiner H.S.) and Wolfe (Robinson, Robinson H.S.) were both Third Team All-ASC honorees. Darilek pitched 71 innings in 21 appearances, earning a 5-4 record with 27 strikeouts. Wolfe came off an injury to start in 32 games for the Cru, leading UMHB with a .373 batting average. She totaled 38 hits with 17 RBI and 11 extra-base hits. Additional returners include sophomore infielder Allie Dalle (Austin, Lake Travis H.S.), sophomore pitcher Camryn Rucker (Elkhart, Elkhart H.S.) and sophomore outfielder Ashley Estrada (Waco, University H.S.).

The 2019 roster welcomes two transfers and 10 freshman beginning their UMHB careers. Juniors Taylor Hewlett and Karen Crane join UMHB as upperclassmen. Hewlett (Houston, Langham Creek) played two years at Clarendon College while Crane (Grand Saline, Fruitvale) opened her career at UT Dallas. The 2019 freshman class includes four pitchers, three infielders and two outfielders. Skylar Cooper (Cedar Park, Cedar Park H.S.), Bayleigh Grogan (Wimberley, Wimberley H.S.), Jacqueline Kay (Georgetown, Georgetown H.S.) and Kathryn Reed (Axtell, Axtell H.S.) are all listed as pitchers. Morgan Benge (Van, Van H.S.), Jessi Ives (Palestine, Slocum H.S.) and Milly Cesare (Frisco, Centennial H.S.) all join the Cru as infielders while Annabel Anderson (Midlothian, Midlothian H.S.) and Alexis Galvan (Grandview, Grandview H.S.) are outfielders.

UMHB opens play at East Texas Baptist University on Thursday, February 7th at 3 p.m. The Cru will open the 2019 home slate and ASC play on Friday, February 15th in a 4 p.m. doubleheader against UT Dallas at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
