BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team opened its three-game series with McMurry University with an 8-0 win Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 11-11 on the season and 8-5 in American Southwest Conference action, while the War Hawks fell to 8-13 overall and 3-7 in league play.
UMHB took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring runs off an RBI single from
Hannah Wolfe and a sacrifice fly from
Avery Kelly.
Allie Dalle and
Kourtney Cummings both scored off an error in the bottom of the third inning before
Kourtney Cummings hit in
Emily Bounds with an RBI double to give UMHB a 5-0 advantage. The Cru tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning off a three-RBI home run from Dalle. Kat Reed threw five shutout innings to secure the 8-0 win for UMHB. Reed allowed just three hits and struck out three batters in the win. Hope Schoeneman took the loss for McMurry, pitching three innings with 10 hits and eight runs allowed. UMHB totaled eight runs on 12 hits with two errors while McMurry had three hits and one error.
UMHB returns to action tomorrow in a 1 p.m. doubleheader against the War Hawks at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
