BROWNWOOD, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's tennis team took the lead in doubles and then swept through the bottom of the singles line-up as the Cru posted a 5-4 victory over Howard Payne Friday in Brownwood. UMHB is now 1-2 overall and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference West Division play this spring. The loss drops Howard Payne to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in the ASC West Division.
UMHB picked up wins from
Shannon Kelly and
Emyleigh Johnson at #2 doubles and
Alondra Torres Diaz and
Madalynn Woelfel at #3 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles. Torres Diaz won 6-0, 6-0 at #4 singles, Johnson posted a 6-0, 6-1 victory at #5 singles and Woelfel won 6-1, 6-0 at #6 singles to clinch the victory. The Cru women will return to action with a 4 pm match at UT Dallas Saturday in Richardson.
