BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team finished the regular season with a 3-0 win over Louisiana College Saturday afternoon in Belton, completing a three-game sweep of the Wildcats. The win improved the Cru to 26-14 on the season and ended American Southwest Conference action with a 21-6 record while Louisiana College fell to 21-19 overall with a 11-16 record in conference play.
The game played as a pitcher's duel with neither team generating a scoring offense until the bottom of the sixth inning.
Allie Dalle opened the inning with a double before
Kasi Cummings hit a deep fly ball to centerfield, advancing Dalle to third. Dalle reached home on the next at-bat when
Emily Bounds slammed an RBI single to right field.
Kourtney Cummings extended that lead with a two-RBI home run, scoring
Jessi Ives and putting the Cru up three runs. Kat Reed threw three consecutive outs in the top of the seventh inning, securing the Cru's third shutout of the Wildcats. Reed earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching a complete seven innings with three strikeouts and four hits allowed. Sarah Gartman took the loss for the Wildcats, throwing six innings with five hits and three runs allowed. Five Crusaders combined for hits for the Cru with
Kourtney Cummings leading the team with two RBI. UMHB totaled three runs, five hits and one error while Louisiana College had four runs and one error.
UMHB returns to action in the 2019 American Southwest Conference Softball Championship Tournament May 2

th on the campus of East Texas Baptist University in Marshall. The Cru secured the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will receive a first-round bye. More information about the tournament will be available on cruathletics.com.
