SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team put the game winner in the net 4:15 into the second overtime as the Cru posted a 2-1 victory over Texas Lutheran Saturday night in Seguin. UMHB improves to 1-0-1 on the season with the win while the loss drops the Bulldogs to 1-1 on the year.
The Cru took a 1-0 lead when
Rolando Nieto scored off an assist from
Seth Neveloff in the 25
th minute. It would stay that way late into regulation before TLU was able to tie it on an 88
th minute goal from Cameron Thomas. Both teams recorded saves in the first overtime to send the match to a second ten-minute session. The Bulldogs had three shots blocked early in the second overtime and Nieto missed wide before
Patrick Roach ended it with a goal off
Martin Lopez's assist in the 105
th minute.
Isai Olvera had a big night in goal for the Cru, posting ten saves as the Bulldogs out shot UMHB 32-15. Caleb Weed also recorded ten saves in net for TLU. Nieto took six of the Cru's 15 shots and
Jasen Zirkel added four shots.
The UMHB men will continue their season-opening road trip next Friday. The Cru will take on University of Dallas in a 7 pm start in Irving.
