BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team had a huge advantage in shots but could not find the back of the net often enough in a 2-1 loss to Schreiner University Friday night in Belton. The Cru falls to 1-3 on the season with the loss. The Mountaineers improve to 3-2-1 on the year with the victory.
The two teams were scoreless into the 39
th minute when Schreiner scored on Dani Loeblein's unassisted goal. It would stay that way into the second half before Loeblein struck again, this time off an assist Loraine Barreto in the 50
th minute. UMHB answered quickly as
Dannah Fritschle hammered home a cross from
Rachel Bloom just 1:41 later to cut it to 2-1. The Cru had multiple chances to tie the game, but could not score the equalizer.
UMHB would outshoot Schreiner 29-3 in the match, with 12 of those shots going on frame. Maddie Saucedo recorded 11 saves in goal for the Mountaineers. Fritschle and
Taylor Marques had five shots apiece for the Cru.
Emmy McMaude had one save in net for UMHB as the Mountaineers put all three of their shots on goal.
UMHB will continue its homestand with a 5:00 pm start against Our Lady of the Lake University on Saturday.
