Football to host Belhaven in ASC opener on Saturday

Game Notes

BELTON, Texas – For the second consecutive week, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football program will be hosting an "opener" at Crusader Stadium. After knocking off Albright College 56-15 in the season opener last Saturday, the Cru will host Belhaven University for the American Southwest Conference opener this Saturday.

UMHB extended its overall winning streak to 16 straight games with Saturday's win over the Lions. The Cru has also won 33 consecutive regular season contests, 27 straight ASC games and 62 regular season home games in a row going into the game against the Blazers. UMHB has also won six in a row over Belhaven and comes into Saturday's game as the defending National Champion and ranked #1 in the nation by D3football.com. The Blazers are 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the ASC after falling to Louisiana College 20-14 last weekend. The Cru played a number of younger players and new faces with six different players scoring their first varsity touchdown in a UMHB uniform in the season opening win over Albright. Now, the Cru will look for some major improvement over that week one performance going into the conference opener in Saturday night's 6 pm kickoff.

"I don't think we were playing with the kind of confidence we needed on both sides of the ball last Saturday," UMHB Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. "I think we can play a lot better in a lot of places and I know that our players feel the same way. We are not where we want or need to be, but we will keep working in that direction. We have to deal with our football team. We watch the film on Sundays and come to grips with the mistakes we made. We all realize that we need to get better as players and as coaches."

The Cru will be playing the second game of a three-game home stand to open the season on Saturday. UMHB will be hosting "Hometown Heroes" night to honor area first responders during Saturday's game. It is also Family Weekend on campus this weekend.
