DALLAS, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team knocked off a little rust with a strong second quarter and the Cru rolled to a 76-56 victory over UNT-Dallas Tuesday in Dallas. UMHB is now 1-0 to start the season. The loss drops the Trailblazers to 1-5 on the year.
After erasing an early deficit to build a 16-13 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Cru opened the second with a 12-4 run to push the lead into double figures at 28-17. The Trailblazers would not be able to close the gap as UMHB pushed the lead to 38-24 at halftime. UMHB shot 64 percent from the field as a team in that second period. The Cru would stretch the lead to 24 points by the end of the third quarter and never let UNT-Dallas get closer than 19 points the rest of the way.
Taylor Kollmorgen led UMHB with 20 points and 12 rebounds in her Cru debut as she went 9-13 from the field.
Allaira Jones added nine points and
Trinity Paeu had eight as UMHB dominated inside and 13 different players scored. The Cru shot 45 percent from the field as a team and out rebounded the Trailblazers 56-32 on the night.
ShanDrea Yeldell and Mykala Dumas had 21 points apiece for UNT-Dallas. The Trailblazers were held to 28 percent shooting from the field, but did force 19 UMHB turnovers.
The Cru women will now return home for the 2020-21 home opener. UMHB will welcome Arlington Baptist to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 5 pm tip-off on Friday.
