Women's Basketball knocks off UNT-Dallas

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team created some separation in the second quarter and held off a scrappy UNT-Dallas team 69-56 Monday evening in Belton. The Cru improves to 3-1 on the season with the victory. The loss drops the Trailblazers to 1-6 on the year. UNT-Dallas was playing its first game since falling to UMHB in the Cru's season opener on December 1st.
 
UMHB led just 10-9 midway through the opening period, but closed the quarter with a 6-0 run to lead 16-9 going into the second. UNT-Dallas closed to within four points, but the Cru was able to stretch the lead out to 38-24 before settling for a 38-27 lead at halftime. The Trailblazers hung around through the third quarter as UMHB led 52-39 going into the final period. The Cru would wear down UNT-Dallas in the final quarter and would grow the lead to 15 points before settling for the 13-point victory.
 
Taylor Kollmorgen led UMHB with 13 points and Olivia Champion added 12. Twelve different players scored in a balanced effort for the Cru. Hannah Eggleston and Allaira Jones had nine rebounds apiece and Brooke Elliott had four assists and three steals. The Cru shot 36 percent from the field as a team and hit just 1-11 three-pointers on the night. UMHB was 14-25 from the free-throw line, but out rebounded the Trailblazers 53-42 in the contest. The Cru had 28 second chance points in the victory.
 
ShanDrea Yeldell topped UNT-Dallas with 20 points. Di'Ambria Whyte had 16 points and 11 rebounds and Mykayla Dumas had 11 points. The Trailblazers shot 33 percent from the field as a team and went 3-18 from beyond the arc. UNT-Dallas turned the ball over 26 times, leading to 19 UMHB points.  
 
The UMHB women will close out the 2020 portion of their schedule with a 5 pm tip-off at LeTourneau University on Friday in Longview. The Cru will then return home to host an exhibition game against North American University on January 2nd.
