BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team started strong despite a two-week layoff and the Cru rolled to a 91-39 victory over North American University Saturday afternoon in Belton. Both teams counted the game as an exhibition, so the result does not count in either team's win/loss record.
UMHB opened the game with a 10-0 run and held the Stallions scoreless for the first 4:44 of the game. The Cru led 22-2 after the first period and stretched the lead to 41-14 at halftime. UMHB continued to dominate in the final two periods, outscoring NAU 26-10 in the third period and 24-15 in the fourth to roll to the victory.
Taylor Kollmorgen and
Allaira Jones led a balanced scoring attack for the Cru with 12 points apiece. Both players also grabbed nine rebounds.
Ashley Faux had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and
Meagan Johnson scored a career-high 11 points.
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen pulled down a game-high 14 boards as UMHB out rebounded NAU 83-27 on the day.
Brooke Elliott had seven assists and
Cheyanne Bonilla chipped in five more. The Cru shot 35 percent from the floor in the game and was just 6-23 from beyond the arc.
Makayla Patterson topped the Stallions with 22 points. Collette Taylor had eight and Krishana Boyd scored seven off the bench. NAU shot just 23 percent from the field and was 1-13 from long-range in the loss.
The Cru women will now return to action with the start of American Southwest Conference play. UMHB will take on UT Dallas next Thursday in Richardson before closing out the opening week of conference play at University of the Ozarks Saturday in Clarksville, Arkansas.
