Men’s Soccer falls to Hardin-Simmons in ASC Semifinals

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin Baylor men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Hardin-Simmons University in the American Southwest Conference Semifinals Friday evening in Belton.
 
The first half played scoreless with Hardin-Simmons outshooting the Cru 7-4 in the first 45 minutes of action. UMHB goalkeeper Dalton Lloyd made four saves in the half to preserve the shutout.
 
Hardin-Simmons opened the second half with a score two minutes in to take a 1-0 lead when Osi Gutierrez sailed a shot into the right side of the goal for a score. Daniel Guillen scored the insurance goal for Hardin-Simmons at 67:58 off an assist from Jakob Fiol.
 
UMHB totaled eight shots in the contest with three different Crusaders totaling two shots each. Lloyd totaled fives saves in the match with two goals allowed while Reid Applewhite pitched a shutout for the Cowboys, making two saves.
 
Hardin-Simmons advances to the championship round of the tournament with the win.  The Cowboys will face the winner of UT Dallas and Concordia Texas on Sunday, November 7th at 1 p.m. UMHB ends the season at 13-4 with a perfect 10-0 mark in ASC action.
