BELTON, Texas –The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team outscored No. 14 Hardin-Simmons University 24-10 in the final quarter of action to earn a 64-52 come-from-behind win over the Cowgirls Saturday afternoon in Abilene. UMHB improved to 5-2 on the season and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Cowgirls fell to 8-2 overall and 3-2 in league play.
Hardin-Simmons opened the contest on a 7-2 run, leading by five at the first media timeout. The Cowgirls extended that lead to seven points before
Arieona Rosborough responded for the Cru, making a layup and draining two free throws to help UMHB cut the lead to three.
The Cru held a brief lead in the second quarter but HSU responded with a 9-0 run to lead by eight late in the half. The Cowgirls held onto that lead through the rest of the half, holding a 27-21 halftime advantage. UMHB fought back in the third quarter pulling within one point late to trail by just two heading into the final frame.
Weade Adeleke made a layup at 9:53 in the fourth quarter to even the contest at 42-42.
Bethany McLeod gave UMHB a lead at 9:11 with a layup before
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen and Rosborough teamed up to put the Cru up by six. Hardin-Simmons cut the lead to three but UMHB responded with a jumper from
Aja Holmes and a three-pointer from
Cheyanne Bonilla to grab another six-point lead. The Cru cruised from there, leading by as many as 13 points in the final minute of action to earn a 64-52 win over the Cowgirls.
Rosborough finished with a team-high 13 points while
Weade Adeleke added 10. UMHB shot 36.8% in the contest with a 73.3% showing in foul shots.
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen led UMHB with 12 rebounds as UMHB out-rebounded the Cowgirls 51-41 in the contest.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, December 16
th in a 5:30 p.m. contest against the University of Texas at Dallas in the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
