Men’s Basketball uses final minute of overtime to earn 91-86 win over LeTourneau

BELTON, Texas –The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team used the final 1:07 of overtime to earn a 91-86 win over LeTourneau University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 7-1 on the season and 4-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the YellowJackets fell to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in league play. The win broke the YellowJackets' season-opening eight-game win streak.
 
LeTourneau jumped to an early 8-2 lead in the first half but UMHB fought back to take a 13-12 lead at the 13:44 mark. The first half of action saw five lead changes with UMHB leading for just under 12 minutes of action. The Cru led by as many as five points, holding a 37-35 advantage at halftime.
 
The second half saw six lead changes with UMHB leading by as many as 11 points. LeTourneau chipped away at UMHB's lead, taking a 58-57 advantage with 8:17 left in the second half. Both teams exchanged leads from there with LeTourneau making a shot with 13 seconds left to send the game into overtime at 76-76.
 
The Yellow Jackets opened the overtime with a pair of free throws before UMHB evened the game with a pair of foul shots from Josiah Johnson. LeTourneau hit a three-pointer to go up again and held a lead until the 1:07 mark with Ty Prince made a driving layup to put UMHB up by one. Luke Feely followed that with a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining before draining a pair of foul shots at the 00:02 mark to seal UMHB's 91-86 win.
 
Johnson was the Cru's leading scorer with 25 points. Luke Feely recorded a double-double in the contest with 23 points and 14 rebounds while Ty Prince added 19 points and 14 rebounds. UMHB shot 41.3 percent in the contest and 57.1 percent in the overtime period. The Cru out-rebounded the YellowJackets 52-45 in the contest, forcing 19 turnovers with 11 steals. Johnson led UMHB with six assists while Prince and D.J. Kane each added five.
 
UMHB returns to in the D3hoops.com Classic in Las Vegas. The Cru opens play on Wednesday, December 29th against Pacific Lutheran at 9 p.m. (PT).
