SEGUIN, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team could get the offense rolling as the Cru lost both ends of a doubleheader to Texas Lutheran University Tuesday evening in Seguin. TLU won 8-0 in game one and took game two 9-0. The losses drop UMHB to 2-3 on the year. The Bulldogs improve to 3-1 on the season with the two wins.
Texas Lutheran took game one 8-0 in a game shortened to five innings. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning and added four more runs in the bottom of the second. Haley Padilla's two-run homer was the biggest hit in the frame for TLU. The Bulldogs tacked on two more in the third and one in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bailey Eggleston had the only hit of the game for UMHB as she led off the top of the fourth inning with a single.
Camryn Rucker took the loss for the Cru to drop to 1-1 on the year. Sydney Ouellette allowed just one hit and struck out two to improve to 2-0 for Texas Lutheran.
UMHB fell 9-0 in six innings in game two. The Bulldogs again jumped out to a quick lead, scoring runs in every inning. Padilla added two more two-run homers for Texas Lutheran in the nightcap. Eggleston,
Milly Cesare and Ty Johnson had hits for the Cru in the second game.
Bayleigh Grogan took the loss for UMHB to drop to 1-2 on the season.
The Cru softball team will have a quick turnaround as UMHB hosts Trinity University for a 1 pm doubleheader on Wednesday at Dee Dillon Field. The Cru will then open American Southwest Conference play with a three-game series at LeTourneau this weekend in Longview.
