BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team pulled away early in the second half and never looked back as the Cru rolled to a 74-42 victory over Concordia Texas Thursday night in Belton. UMHB improves to 9-7 overall and 5-6 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops the Tornados to 2-5 overall and in the ASC on the year.
The game was just a nine-point affair at halftime with the Cru up 30-21. UMHB opened the third quarter with 21-4 burst to open up a 25-point advantage and Concordia never got back into the contest after that. The Tornados never got closer than a 13-point deficit early in the final quarter as the Cru coasted to just its second win in the last six games.
Taylor Kollmorgen led UMHB with 13 points.
Cheyanne Bonilla added 11 points and
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen also reached double figures with 10 points for the Cru. UMHB shot 51 percent as a team for the game and was 10-16 from the free-throw line. The Cru out rebounded Concordia 47-36 and forced 19 turnovers.
Madi Maxwell was the only player in double figures for Concordia with 10 points. The Tornados shot just 25 percent from the field as a team and went 3-15 from beyond the arc. CTX was also out scored in the paint 48-20 on the night/
The Cru and Tornados will face off again in a rematch Saturday afternoon in Austin. UMHB will then return home to close out the regular season against Sul Ross State and Howard Payne next week.
