CLARKSVILLE, Arkansas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball bats came alive Friday afternoon in Clarksville, earning the Cru a pair of 9-5, 14-0 wins over the Eagles. UMHB improved to 10-9 with the wins while Ozarks fell to 1-7.
Elissa Elliott gave UMHB a lead in the first inning, scoring on an error. Ozarks evened the game in the bottom of that frame before UMHB's offense put up three runs in the second with RBI from
Izzy Gutierrez,
Lexi Harris and Elliott.
Tatum Stover hit in
Milly Cesare with an RBI double in the third inning before
Elisabeth Paul scored
Bailey Eggleston with a sacrifice fly in the fourth. UMHB led 7-1 before Ozarks recorded single-run innings in the fourth, fifth and sixth. Elliott ended scoring for the Cru in the top of the seventh, hitting a home run and scoring
Lexi Harris for nine total UMHB runs. Ozarks added one more run in the bottom of that frame but was unable to catch up, securing UMHB's 9-5 win. Elliott led the Cru with three hits and three RBI while she and Harris each scored a team-high two runs.
Bayleigh Grogan earned the win for UMHB, throwing four innings with four hits and two runs allowed.
Camryn Rucker pitched three innings in relief, earning the save with five hits and three runs allowed. UMHB totaled nine runs on 12 hits with no errors while the Eagles had five runs on nine hits with five errors.
The Cru followed that with a 14-0 run-rule over the Eagles. UMHB put up four runs in the first inning with RBI from
Bailey Eggleston,
Milly Cesare and
Bailey Wagner. The Cru added three runs in the second inning, four runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the fifth for the 14-0 win.
Allyse Castillo led the Cru with three hits while Harris, Elliott, Cesare,
Jessica Miller and Wagner each added two hits. Wagner led the Cru with three RBI while Miller and Cesare each added two. Elliott was the run leader with four runs followed by Harris,
Kennedy Kalka,
Bailey Stoker and Cesare with two each.
Kami Flores earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching five innings with three hits allowed and two strikeouts. UMHB totaled 14 runs on 15 hits while the Eagles had three hits and four errors.
UMHB finishes the series tomorrow in a 12 p.m. single game against University of the Ozarks in Clarksville.
