Softball completes sweep of UT Dallas

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a Saturday doubleheader against the University of Texas at Dallas, earning 3-1 and 9-0 wins over the Comets.  UMHB moved to 13-9 overall and 7-5 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets moved to 1-16 overall and 1-11 in league play.
 
UT Dallas took an early lead in the first game, scoring Ashley Ambrosy for a 1-0 lead. UMHB responded with a two runs in the bottom of that frame. Bailey Eggleston scored on a passed ball before Bailey Wagner hit in Elissa Elliott with an RBI single. UMHB held a one-run lead until the bottom of the sixth inning when Taylor Holman scored Alyssa Bates with an RBI single. Kami Flores pitched three consecutive outs in the top of the seventh, securing UMHB's 3-1 win. Flores pitched a complete seven innings with five hits and one run allowed Mikayla Kanetzky took the loss for UT Dallas, throwing six innings with five hits and three runs allowed. Bailey Wagner led the Cru with two hits as UMHB totaled three runs on five hits with two errors. Hardin-Simmons totaled one run on five hits with no errors.
 
UMHB dominated the second game with a 9-0 win over the Comets. UMHB opened with three runs in the bottom of the first. Lexi Harris scored on an error before Milly Cesare and Elisabeth Paul recorded back-to-back RBI hits. UMHB had single-run inning sin the second and third innings. Eggleston scored Harris with an RBI single in the bottom of the second inning and Kenzie Bush scored on a sacrifice fly by Paul in the bottom of the third.  UMHB sealed the 9-0 win with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Harris opened scoring, reaching on an RBI double from Elissa Elliott. Elliott followed that, reaching home on an error before Bailey Wagner slammed a two-RBI double to seal the 9-0 win. Harris led the Cru with three hits followed by Paul and Wagner with two each. Harris was the run leader, leading UMHB with three while Eggleston, Paul and Wagner each had a team-high two RBI. Bayleigh Grogan earned the win in the circle for UMHB, throwing five shutout innings with four hits allowed. Devyn Yanello and Alexis Brown split pitching time for the Comets. Yanello took the loss, throwing 3.1 innings with 11 hits and seven runs allowed. UMHB totaled nine runs on 13 hits with one error while the Comets had four hits and three errors.

The Cru returns to action in a 5 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday, April 1st at Sul Ross State University in Alpine.
