Softball takes doubleheader with McMurry University

ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team earned a pair of wins over McMurry University Friday afternoon in Abilene. UMHB improved to 19-11 overall and 13-7 in American Southwest Conference action while the War Hawks fell to 16-9 overall and 12-9 in league play.
 
UMHB jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, scoring on a pair of RBI doubles from Milly Cesare and Taylor Holman and a sacrifice fly from Bailey Wagner. McMurry added one run in the bottom of that frame before UMHB scored two more in the top of the second on a two-RBI single from Elissa Elliott. Neither team scored again, ending the contest in a 5-1 UMHB win. Elliott and Bailey Eggleston led UMHB with two hits each while Elliott had a team-high two RBI. Lexi Harris, Cesare, Elliott, Eggleston and Tyeann Johnson all scored runs for the Cru. Bayleigh Grogan earned the win in the circle for UMHB, throwing seven innings with just one run allowed. Grogan gave up nine hits and struck out three batters in the win. UMHB totaled five runs on eight hits with one error while the War Hawks had one run on nine hits with one error.
 
The Cru swept the doubleheader with a 2-1 win over the War Hawks in the second game of the day. UMHB scored a pair of runs on an RBI single from Tatum Stover in the top of the sixth inning to break the drought. McMurry added one run off an RBI single in the bottom of that frame but UMHB forced three outs with one runner left on base in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 2-1 win. Eggleston and Holman led the Cru with two hits and one run each while Stover was UMHB's RBI leader. Camryn Rucker earned the win in the circle for UMHB, pitching seven innings with three hits and one run allowed. Rucker struck out three batters and walked just three. Kinleigh Stotts took the loss for the War Hawks. Stotts threw seven innings with six hits and two runs allowed. UMHB totaled two runs on six hits with two errors while the War Hawks had one run on three hits with no errors.
 
UMHB and McMurry will close the series with a 12 p.m. single contest on Saturday, April 17th.
