CLARKSVILLE, Ark.– The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's soccer team tied University of the Ozarks 2-2 in the quarterfinal round of the 2020-21 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament Saturday afternoon in Clarksville.
Ozarks took a lead in the 18
th minute when Drew Mott scored on an assist from Lorfils Milford. The Eagles held that lead until two minutes into the second half when
Brody Conley scored the equalizer for the Cru.
Harper Roland scored the go-ahead for UMHB in the 51
st minute before Kyle Seymour tied the game for the Eagles at the 78:25 mark. UMHB outshot the Eagles 14-10 in then match but regulated ended in a tie.
After two scoreless overtime periods, the contest ended in a 2-2 tie with penalty kicks deciding the advancing team.
Ethan Rimbey saved the Eagles' first attempt and
Patrick Roach converted for the Cru to give UMHB a 1-0 edge. Ozarks made their next three attempts while
Price Peden and
Brody Conley both converted for UMHB. Rimbey made another save on the Eagles' fifth attempt to keep the count at 3-3 but UMHB's attempt was blocked. The shootout went to six shooters with Ozarks scoring, advancing them to the finals on a 4-3 count.
Conley led the Cru with five shots while
Harper Roland,
Seth Neveloff and
Nick Villanueva each added two. Rimbey and
Dalton Lloyd split at goalkeeper for the Cru, each allowing one goal with one save made. Logan Valestin played 110 minutes in the net for the Eagles, giving up two goals and making five saves.
UMHB ends its season at 6-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in American Southwest Conference play. The Eagles advance to the semifinal round of the 2020-21 ASC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
