CLARKSVILLE, AR – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team claimed an 85-59 win over University of the Ozarks Thursday evening in Clarksville. The Cru improved to 13-2 overall and 8-2 in the American Southwest Conference while the Eagles fell to a 3-12 record on the season and 2-8 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an early seven-point lead with baskets by
Carson Hammond and
Luke Feely. At the 10:09 mark, the Cru used a basket by
Kyle Wright to claim a double-digit lead. UMHB continued to push, creating an advantage as big as 19. A layup by Wright with 30 seconds remaining took the Cru into the half up 44-26.
The Cru shot 53 percent from the field throughout the first half. UMHB was led in the first by Feely with 11 points and Hammond with eight.
The second half started on a fourteen-point run by the Cru, led by Wright with seven. A basket behind the arc at 16:59 by Hammond brought UMHB up by 32, forcing the Eagles to call a time out. The Ozarks continued to fight back in the final ten minutes, but the Cru did not let their lead drop under 23. With a final three-pointer by
Logan Blow with 25 seconds remaining, UMHB claimed an 85-59 win.
UMHB was led by Wright with 19 points and three steals. Feely, Hammond and
Ty Prince all added 11 to the Cru's total 85 points.
Nathan Stolz led defensively with eight rebounds and a block. UMHB had 12 steals and totaled 30 points off turnovers.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, January 27
th in a 7:30 PM contest against Hardin-Simmons University in Belton.
