CLARKSVILLE, AR – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team claims 73-67 win over University of the Ozarks Thursday evening in Clarksville. The Cru improved to 14-2 overall and 11-0 in the American Southwest Conference while the Eagles fell to a 6-7 record on the season and 3-5 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an early lead with a 10-2 run in the first five minutes of play. The Eagles then answered with a quick ten-point run to take their first lead of the game. After back-and-forth play,
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen claimed her eighth point of the contest with 13 seconds left in the first to give the Cru a four-point lead. The second quarter proceeded in even play, containing seven lead changes. The Eagles hit a three-pointer with five seconds remaining to take the final lead, ending the half 35-33.
The Cru came into the second half strong with seven points from
Ashley Faux in the first four minutes to pull away from the Eagles. UMHB kept the advantage, creating a lead as big as 12. The Eagles used baskets in the final minute to lessen the gap, going into the fourth 56-48. The fourth quarter began with back-and-forth play. With three and a half minutes remaining on the clock, the Eagles hit a three-pointer to lessen the gap to three. The Cru the responded with a seven-point run to bring the lead back to ten. The Ozarks tried to fight back, but UMHB held on claiming the 73-67 win.
Bethany McLeod led UMHB with 23 points, including 13 fourth-quarter points. Faux had 17 points and Kollmorgen added 11 to the Cru's total 73. UMHB totaled 38 rebounds led by Kollomorgen with seven. Defensively the Cru caused 20 turnovers by the eagles led by McLeod with five steals, followed by Kollmorgen with three.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, January 27
th in a 5:30 PM contest against Hardin-Simmons University in Belton.
