BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team cruised to an 88-51 win over Howard Payne University Thursday evening in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 6-1 on the season and 3-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-9 overall and 0-5 in league play.
UMHB jumped to an early 12-0 lead with
Arieona Rosborough scoring 10 points in the run. The Cru extended the first-quarter lead to 14 points with 4:06 left in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets fought back but the Cru held on to the double-digit lead through the quarter.
The Cru led by as many as 25 points in the second quarter, cruising to a 41-17 halftime lead. UMHB scored 14 points off turnovers in the first half with six second-chance points and 18 points off the bench.
The Yellow Jackets scored a game-high 20 points in the third quarter, but UMHB edged them with 21 to go into the final quarter up by 25 points. The Cru outscored Howard Payne 26-14 in the fourth quarter to seal the 88-51 victory.
Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 18 points, followed by
Kirsten Zaruba with 16.
Payton Hicks added nine points with 14 total Crusaders scoring in the contest.
Ashley Faux was the team's rebound leader with nine while
Lauren Baker added a team-high six assists. UMHB shot 47.4 percent in the contest with a 33.3 percent showing from beyond the arc.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, December 17
th in 1 p.m. contest against Sul Ross State University at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
