ABILENE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team fell to Hardin-Simmons University Saturday afternoon in Abilene. UMHB moves to 1-2 in the American Southwest Conference and 2-3 overall while the Cowgirls moved to 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference.
The Cowgirls opened with a run off an RBI double down the line in the bottom of the first inning. Hardin-Simmons added another one to the board in the third off a sacrifice fly to left field. The Cru cut into the lead with a run by
Kennedy Kalka on an RBI single by
Blakely Niles in the sixth, but Hardin-Simmons extended their lead back to two in the bottom of the inning. UMHB tried to knot it up in the seventh, bringing in a run by
Taylor Holman off an error, but were unable to catch up. The Cowgirls claimed the 3-2 victory to win the series.
Bayleigh Grogan pitched all six innings for the Cru. She allowed three runs on five hits with just one walk. UMHB totaled nine hits while HSU just had five. Holman lead the Cru with three hits and Niles added two.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, February 18
th in a doubleheader against McMurry in Belton.
