BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team outscored McMurry University in a pair of matches Friday afternoon in Belton, earning 3-0 and 4-2 wins over the War Hawks. The wins improved UMHB to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in American Southwest Conference play while the War Hawks fell to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in league play.
The Cru put two runs on the board in the bottom of the second after an error by the War Hawks brought
Kennedy Kalka home from first base and
Lexi Harris all the way around the bases. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Harris put herself in scoring position with a triple.
Tatum Stover brought in Harris after reaching on an error. The War Hawks failed to score a run and UMHB claimed the 3-0 victory. The Cru totaled six hits, led by Harris with two. McMurry finished with five hits and three errors.
Emilee Wade pitched all seven innings for UMHB claiming her first career win.
McMurry opened the second contest with an early double and run to claim the first lead 1-0 in the first inning. UMHB answered in the bottom of the second inning when
Elissa Elliott scored on an RBI single by
Bailey Eggleston. The Cru kept pushing forward in the fourth inning with three hits to get in scoring position.
Kendall Tramel and Harris were both brought in from RBI singles to give UMHB a 3-1 advantage. The War Hawks cut into the advantage with a homerun in the top of the 5
th inning. UMHB loaded the bases in the bottom of the 6
th inning and scored their final run stealing home after a wild pitch. The Cru held McMurry through the seventh inning and took the 4-2 win. UMHB totaled nine hits with four athletes each claiming two. McMurry totaled six hits on their two runs.
Rachel Williams received the win for the Cru and pitched six innings.
UMHB returns to action Saturday, February 19
th in a 12:00 P.M. contest to close the series against McMurry in Belton.
