BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team claimed the sweep over McMurry University closing the series with a 5-2 win Saturday afternoon in Belton. The victory improved UMHB to 5-3 overall and 4-2 in league play while the War Hawks fell to 4-4 on the season and 2-4 in the American Southwest Conference.
The War Hawks were the first to score, bringing in one run in the top of the third inning. UMHB answered in the bottom of the third after a single by
Milly Cesare brought
Bailey Stoker home to knot-up the game. The Cru took the lead when the very next batter,
Elisabeth Paul, hit a double to score Cesare. In the bottom of the sixth inning, UMHB expanded their advantage with a run by Stover followed by a score from
Elissa Elliott. McMurry made a final effort in the seventh inning with a homerun, but the Cru held them to two. UMHB finished the series with a 5-2 victory.
The Cru totaled eight hits, led by
Lexi Harris with two. The War Hawks totaled three hits and two runs.
Rachel Williams started in the circle for UMHB and completed six innings. Williams had one strike out and allowed three hits.
Emilee Wade finished the contest in the circle for the Cru claiming two strike outs.
UMHB will return to action February 25
th in a 1:00 P.M. contest against Schreiner University in Kerrville.
