KERRVILLE, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a doubleheader at Schreiner University Sunday afternoon in Kerrville, earning 7-4 and 13-2 wins over the Mountaineers. UMHB improved to 7-3 on the season while the Mountaineers fell to 2-11.
The first contest played scoreless until the sixth inning when UMHB put three runs on the board.
Lindsey Polleschultz scored on an RBI from
Milly Cesare before
Blakely Niles hit a two-RBI single to score Cesare and
Lexi Harris. UMHB added there more runs in the top of the seventh off a pair of errors and an RBI double from
Julia Crofut. Schreiner generated four runs in the bottom of that frame but UMHB's defense held, giving the Cru a 7-4 win.
Niles and
Elissa Elliott led the Cru with three hits while Harris and Polleschultz each had a team-high two runs. UMHB totaled seven runs on 12 hits with no errors while the Mountaineers had four runs on six hits with three errors.
Bayleigh Grogan earned the win in the circle for the Cru, throwing seven shutout innings with six strikeouts and three hits allowed.
Schreiner took an early lead in game two with a run in the bottom of the second. UMHB responded with a six-run inning in the fourth.

Allyse Castillo.
Blakely Niles ended the inning with two more runs driven in, putting the Cru up 6-1. Schreiner added one more run in the bottom of the fifth but UMHB responded with three runs in the top of the next frame. Cesare hit in
Kendall Tramel with an RBI single before scoring on an error.
Bailey Stoker also scored in the inning, reaching on an RBI from
Kaitlin Powers. UMHB added four more runs in the seventh to secure a 13-2 win.
Holman led the Cru with three hits while four other Crusaders added two each. Tramel and Holman both scored a team-high two runs.
Rachel Williams earned the win in the circle for the Cru, pitching a complete seven innings with six hits and two runs allowed. Williams struck out four and gave up just one earned run in the win. Three separate pitchers combined for the Mountaineers with Bri Wodtke taking the loss. UMHB totaled 13 runs on 17 hits with four errors while Schreiner had two runs on six hits with one error.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, March 4th in a 2 p.m. doubleheader against University of the Ozarks at Dee Dillon Field in Belton.
