AUSTIN, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor men's basketball team claimed a 82-73 win on the road against Concordia University Texas on Monday evening in Austin. The Cru improved to 20-2 on the season and 15-2 in league play while the Tornados fell to 8-13 overall and 5-12 in ASC play.
The contest began in back-and-forth action until the ninth minute when
Nathan Stolz hit a basket behind the arc. The Cru continued on a 12-point run, led by
Carson Hammond with five points. UMHB and Concordia continued to battle, alternating baskets. The Cru held their lead, going into the second half ahead 38-32.
UMHB entered the second half strong with a three-pointer from Hammond followed by a dunk from
Luke Feely in the first minute of play. At the 9:32 mark, the Cru used a 10-point run followed by a six-point run to expand their lead to 17. The Tornados continued to fight back, but UMHB held on claiming the 82-73 victory.
Hammond lead the Cru with 18 points, including four baskets behind the arc.
Payton Brooks and
Kyle Wright added ten points apiece.
Ty Prince and
Josiah Johnson helped anchor the UMHB offense totaling five assists each. Feely was big under the basket for the Cru, leading with eight boards. Defensively, UMHB caused 23 turnovers for the Tornados, led by Johnson with six steals.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, February 17
th in a contest against Belhaven University in Belton.
