BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football program has added Matt Cannata as the newest full-time member of the Cru's coaching staff. Cannata will replace Bill Bleil as UMHB's next offensive line coach.
Cannata comes to UMHB after spending the past three years as an assistant offensive line coach at UNC-Charlotte. In 2019, Cannata aided Conference USA's number two ranked scoring offense and number one ranked rushing offense, guiding them to Charlotte's first ever bowl game appearance. In 2018 Cannata served as an offensive graduate assistant at Austin Peay coaching the offensive line and tight ends. While at Austin Peay Cannata contributed to an offensive line that was number nine in least sacks allowed.
Cannata is also familiar with the American Southwest Conference thanks to his two-year stint as an offensive assistant at Texas Lutheran University. Cannata coached the Bulldogs in 2016 and 2017 serving as offensive line coach/run game coordinator as well as recruiting coordinator.
Cannata is a 2013 graduate of Texas Lutheran University. Cannata started 38 games of his collegiate career at center for the Bulldogs. He was a two-time selection on the ASC All-Academic Conference team. Originally from the Houston area, Cannata was an All-County and First Team All -District offensive lineman at Travis High School in Richmond, Texas.
