Women’s Basketball earns road-win over UT Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team played a hard-fought battle with the University of Texas at Dallas Sunday afternoon in Richardson, coming away with a 55-46 victory. The win improved the Cru to 17-2 on the season and 14-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Comets fell to 10-5 overall and 9-3 in league play.
 
UT Dallas opened the contest leading by as many as seven points halfway through the first quarter. Kasey Jo Hinton and Ashley Faux hit a pair of threes to cut the lead to two. UMHB held the Comets scoreless through the final 3:19 of play and took a 14-12 lead off a layup from Catherine Kaiser and a pair of free throws from Arieona Rosborough. The Cru maintained the lead through the second quarter, heading into halftime up by four.
 
The Comets opened the third quarter with a 14-4 run to take a four-point lead over the Cru. Bethany McLeod's three-pointer at 3:52 cut that lead to one before Aja Holmes's layup at 2:44 put the Cru on top again. UT Dallas evened the contest at 37 with a pair of foul shots from Jordan Rudd but a foul shot and a jumper from Rosborough put UMHB ahead to end the quarter. The Cru pulled away with an 8-0 run in the fourth and did not trail again, sealing the 55-46 win.
 
Rosborough led the Cru with 24 points, followed by Faux with eight. Rosborough and Faux also led the Cru with six rebounds each while Hinton had a team-high three assists. UMHB held the Comets to a 28.0 percent showing from the field. The Comets went 2-of-14 from beyond the arc and committed 21 turnovers in the contest.
 
UMHB returns to action on Monday, February 7th in a 4 p.m. contest at LeTourneau University in Longview.
