BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team defeated LeTourneau University 57–39 on Monday evening in Longview. The Cru improved to 18-2 on the season and 15-0 in the American Southwest Conference while the Yellowjackets fell to 10-7 overall and 7-5 in league play.
UMHB took the first lead of the game, but the Yellowjackets kept at pace, bringing the contest within one at the 5:24 mark. The Cru answered with a nine-point run and finished out the quarter holding LeTourneau to just nine points. UMHB remained scoreless in the second until
Bethany McLeod hit a basket at the 7:19 mark, sparking a six point-run. With the Cru up by 12, the Yellowjackets used a seven-point run to bring the game within just four going into the half with UMHB ahead 27-23.
LeTourneau claimed the first two baskets of the second half, taking their first lead of the game. The Cru followed up with a five-point run, reestablishing their lead. UMHB continued to inch away with big baskets from
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen, going into the final quarter up by 11. The Cru kept pushing on, only allowing the Yellowjackets five fourth-quarter points and claimed a 57-39 victory over LeTourneau.
UMHB was led in scoring by
Arieona Rosborough and Kollmorgen with 11 each.
Olivia Champion had 10 points for the Cru, while
Alexia Martin added nine. Kollmorgen claimed a double-double with 15 rebounds and 11 points. UMHB out rebounded LETU 61-32, Rosborough and
Ashley Faux each adding eight.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, February 10th in contest against Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
