LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team ended its run in the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament with a 63-58 loss to Transylvania University Friday evening in Lexington.
Transylvania opened the contest with a 12-3 run in the first quarter to gain significant advantage on the Cru. UMHB cut the lead to just four but the Pioneers extended the lead to eight to end the quarter. Transylvania held the Cru to just 10 second-quarter points, heading into halftime with a 35-21 advantage. UMHB scored 12 points in the third quarter, heading into the final ten minutes of action down 50-33.
UMHB fought back in the fourth, outscoring the Pioneers 25-13. Transylvania hit a pair of foul shots to go up 19 before
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen made a layup to put UMHB on the board. The Pioneers drained another free throw but
Olivia Champion and
Catherine Kaiser hit back-to-back shots to lessen the lead to 14. Kaiser hit another layup halfway through the quarter to cut the lead to ten before a trio of foul shots from
Ashley Faux pulled the Cru within seven. UMHB continued to fight back, cutting the lead to just three points with 4:27 left but Transylvania held on, earning a 63-58 win over the Cru.
Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 14 points while
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen finished with a double-double, scoring 11 points and bringing down 11 rebounds.
Catherine Kaiser added 10 rebounds while
Olivia Champion had a team-high three steals. UMHB shot 30.4 percent in the contest and out-rebounded the Pioneers 54-49. The Cru totaled 20 points off the bench with 18 second-chance points and 40 points in the paint.
The Cru ends the 2021-22 season at 24-5 overall. UMHB won the American Southwest Conference regular-season title with an 18-1 conference mark and advanced to the Third Round of the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament for the third consecutive season.
