BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped the series finale to Belhaven University 9-1 Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB moved to 18-7 on the season while the Blazers improved to 20-3.
Belhaven got on the board in the top of the first inning, scoring Rylee Landreaux on an error.
Izzy Gutierrez hit in
Elissa Elliott in the bottom of that frame to equalize the contest. The Blazers added one more run in the top of the third before exploding for seven runs in the next two innings to take a 9-1 lead. UMHB saw one base runner in the bottom of the fifth but the Blazers thwarted the Cru's comeback attempt, sealing the 9-1 win.
Lexi Harris, Elliott and Gutierrez each recorded a hit for the Cru while Elliott scored the Cru's lone run.
Bayleigh Grogan took the loss for UMHB, throwing 3.1 innings with 10 hits and five runs allowed.
Rachel Williams and
Emilee Wade pitched in relief, giving up three hits and four runs combined. Kennedy Carruth earned the win for Belhaven throwing five innings with three hits and one run allowed.
UMHB returns to action next weekend at No. 6 East Texas Baptist University. The Cru opens the series with a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 1
st and finishes the series in a 12 p.m. single game on Saturday, April 2
nd.
