Survive and advance! Women’s Basketball earns come-from-behind win over Webster

MEMPHIS, Tenn – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team earned a come-from-behind win over previously-undefeated Webster University in the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship Tournament First Round Friday evening in Memphis.
 
UMHB used a 7-0 run to gain advantage on Webster in the first quarter and did not trail again, cruising to a 23-17 first-quarter lead. The Cru held onto that lead until late in the second quarter when the Gorloks started their comeback. Webster used an 11-1 run to even the contest at 35. Bethany Lancaster hit a foul shot with 23 seconds left on the clock to give the Gorloks a 36-35 lead at the half. Arienoa Rosborough went on an individual scoring run halfway through the third quarter, scoring seven consecutive points to put the Cru ahead by six. UMHB held onto that lead, going into the final ten minutes of action ahead by four.
 
Webster evened the contest at 55 with 8:27 left on the clock and took a lead at 8:19. The Gorloks held advantage until the 1:40 mark when Bethany McLeod hit a layup and ensuing foul shot to even the contest at 72. Webster jumped ahead again but McLeod responded, hitting a three-pointer with 36 seconds left on the clock to give UMHB a 78-76 lead. Webster missed the next shot before Rosborough put the Cru up by three with a free throw. McLeod sealed the win for the UMHB, forcing a turnover with eight seconds left.
 
Rosborough led the Cru with a double-double, scoring 25 points and adding 13 boards in the contest. Kaitlyn Kollmorgen added 16 points and nine rebounds while Ashley Faux and Bethany McLeod also finished with double digits. UMHB shot 41 percent in the contest with 34 points in the paint and 23 points off turnovers. The Cru totaled 46 rebounds, 12 steals and one block in the game.
 
UMHB advances to the second round of the NCAA championships and will face ASC rival East Texas Baptist University at 5 p.m. in Memphis. UMHB is 1-1 against the Tigers this season.
