SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team fell victim to a seventh-inning grand slam Tuesday in San Antonio, dropping a 7-3 decision to No. 19 Trinity University. The loss drops the run to 17-13 overall while the Tigers improved to 21-7.
UMHB took a lead in the second inning when
Staton Dudley scored on an RBI single from
Drake Herrera. The Tigers responded in the bottom of that frame, scoring a pair of runs off RBI singles from Jack Vonderhaar and MJ Metz. The Cru responded with a two home runs in the top of the seventh from
Malek Bolin and
Ryan Farmer, evening the contest at three runs each.
Ezra Gore and Tyler Pettit hit back-to-back singles to get on base for the Tigers in the seventh. Jack Wisniewski was hit by pitch to load the bases before Colt Harris hit a grand slam to give the Tigers the 7-3 win.
Herrera led the Cru with two hits while five other Crusaders added one each. Bolin, Farmer and Herrera each recorded RBI while Bolin, Farmer and Dudley all scored runs. UMHB threw six pitchers in the contest with
Zack Honey taking the loss. The Cru pitching staff combined for eight strikeouts, allowing just 10 hits and walking four. UMHB totaled three runs on seven hits with one error.
The Cru returns to action in a road series at LeTourneau University. The series opens with a 7 p.m. single game on Thursday, April 14
th and concludes Friday, April 15
th in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
