Softball drops series finale to No. 6 East Texas Baptist

MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team dropped game three to the East Texas Baptist University Tigers Saturday in Marshall, falling 7-2. The Cru moved to 19-9 on the season and 12-6 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers moved to 22-7 overall.
 
ETBU's offensive opened explosively, scoring six runs in the first inning. Delanie Loya opened with a home run to left field, scoring two runs. Mary Frances Ellis followed with an RBI single before Sarah Bledsoe drove in three more runs with another home run. Blakely Niles put the Cru on the board in the fourth, scoring Elissa Elliott with an RBI single. Milly Cesare scored another run in the fifth off an RBI single from Stover. The Tigers added one more run in the fifth, sealing the 7-2 win. Julia Crofut led the Cru with two hits while three other Crusaders added one each. Bayleigh Grogan took the loss for the Cru, throwing 0.2 innings with five runs and two hits allowed. Rachel Williams and Emilee Wade split relief time, throwing 5.1 innings with six hits and two runs allowed. UMHB totaled two runs on five hits with one error while the Tigers had seven runs on eight hits.
 
UMHB returns to action next weekend in a three-game series at Concordia University Texas. The series opens with a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Friday, April 8th and concludes with a 12 p.m. single-game on Saturday, April 9th.
