BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a Friday doubleheader with Concordia University Texas Friday afternoon in Austin. The win improved the Cru to 21-9 on the season and 14-6 in American Southwest Conference action.
Lexi Harris gave UMHB a lead in the first inning, scoring on an error. The Tornados responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to even the contest at one.
Elissa Elliott and
Tatum Stover scored on an RBI triple from
Blakely Niles in the second to give UMHB another lead. The Cru extended that lead with a pair of single-run frames in the fifth and sixth innings. Concordia Texas added one more run in the seventh but was unable to score, sealing the 5-2 win for the Cru.
Harris, Niles and
Milly Cesare led the Cru with two hits each while Harris,
Julia Crofut, Elliott, Stover and
Kylie Green each added runs.
Bayleigh Grogan earned the win in the circle, throwing six innings with three hits and one run allowed. Grogan struck out two and did not walk a single batter. Bailey Tisdale took the loss for the Tornados, throwing seven innings with 12 hits and five runs allowed. UMHB totaled five runs on 12 hits with two errors while the Tornados had two runs on four hits with four errors.

Bailey Eggleston scored next on a sacrifice fly from
Blakely Niles to extend the lead to two runs. The Tornados responded with single-run frames in the fourth and fifth to even the contest at two. Gutierrez hit in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh to send
Kylie Green home for the go-ahead. Harris scored an insurance run off an RBI double from Crofut, sealing the 4-2 win.
Crofut led the Cru with two hits while four other Crusaders each added one. Gutierrez led with two RBI while Harris added two runs.
Rachel Williams earned the win in the circle for the Cru, throwing seven innings with nine run and two hits allowed. Delaney Loosemore took the loss for CTX, allowing six hits and four runs on seven innings of work.
UMHB closes the series on Saturday, April 9th in a 12 p.m. single-game against the Tornados in Austin.
