Women’s Basketball edged UT Dallas

RICHARDSON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team edged UT Dallas 53-49 Saturday afternoon in Richardson. The Cru improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in league play while the Comets fell to 8-6 on the season and 4-3 in American Southwest Conference action.
 
UMHB opened the contest on a 6-1 run, but the Comets fought back with five unanswered points to tie it at six. The first quarter saw three more even scores before Lauren Baker hit a shot at the buzzer to bring the Cru up 14-12. UMHB held the lead through the first five minutes of the second quarter, led by Arieona Rosborough with three points. The Comets used a 9-2 run followed by a four-point run to pull away 31-26 at the 0:51 mark. The Cru added four late points to close the gap and head into the half down 31-30.
 
UMHB retook the lead with a 9-2 run, led by Rosborough with four at the start of the second half. UTD responded with nine unanswered points to reclaim a 42-39 advantage at the 1:45 mark. Ashley Faux and Aja Holmes hit two final third quarter baskets to bring UMHB ahead by one at the break.
 
UTD led through the first eight minutes of fourth quarter action until a Jaycie Brisco jump shot brought the Cru ahead by one at the 1:34 mark. UMHB extended their lead to three with a Rosborough layup with 24 seconds left on the clock. The Cru forced a Comets turnover with 15 second on the clock and secured the 53-49 win a foul shot by Faux.
 
Rosborough led the Cru with 16 points and nine rebounds while Faux added 10 points. UMHB capitalized on 15 points from turnovers and 14 second chance points. The Cru totaled eight steals, led by Payton Hicks with three followed by Faux with two.
 
UMHB returns to action Thursday, January 12th in a 5:30 p.m. contest against Hardin-Simmons University in Belton.
