BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team took down East Texas Baptist University in straight sets Friday evening in Belton as Cru Head Coach
Mark Pryor earned his 100
th win at UMHB. The Cru improved to 19-1 on the season and 8-1 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 15-3 overall and 8-1 in league play.
UMHB opened the match with a block from
Kendall Harrington and
Dravyn Hurd but the Tigers responded with an 8-1 run to take a six-point lead. East Texas Baptist continued to lead the first set, going up 21-15 before UMHB started to fight back.
Maddie Gillispie served six straight points as the Cru used a pair of ETBU attack errors and two kills from
Hannah Frasca to take a 23-22 lead. ETBU evened the contest at 23 before a Harrington kill and ETBU attack error gave UMHB the 25-23 first-set win.
The Cru used a 5-2 run to grab an early lead in the second set and held the high ground until the Tigers tied it at 9-9. The set played within three points until UMHB went up 19-15 late. UMHB allowed ETBU just two more points, winning the set 25-17. The Cru grabbed a 3-0 margin in the third set before the Tigers tied it there. The set saw five tied scores before UMHB used a 15-2 run to put the Tigers away, cruising to a 25-16 win from there.
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with nine kills while
Katie Warden and
Kendall Harrington each added five. UMHB totaled 25 kills on 103 attacks in the contest.
Ella Brunson anchored UMHB's offense with 22 assists while
Maddie Gillispie served a team-high three service aces.
Dravyn Hurd led the Crusader defense, totaling seven blocks while
Kendall Harrington added six. UMHB totaled 25 blocks in the contest, limiting the Tigers to a .022 hitting percentage. Frasca led UMHB with 11 digs, followed by Gillispie and Brunson with 10 each.
UMHB returns to action in a pair of matches on Saturday, October 14
th. The Cru faces LeTourneau University at 11 a.m. before taking on Luther College in a 5 p.m. match. Both of those contests will be played at the Mayborn Campus Center in Belton.
