BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team swept Hardin-Simmons University 3-0 in the American Southwest Conference Semifinals Friday evening in Belton. The Cru improved to 27-1 on the year while the Cowgirls fell to 13-15 overall.
The Cowgirls jumped to an early lead in the first set and held the high ground until the 17-13 mark. UMHB used a 9-1 run to gain its first lead of the match and go ahead 22-18. The Cru allowed the Cowgirls just one more point, claiming the first set 25-19.
The second set played within two points through the 12-12 mark. UMHB pulled away with three unanswered points to establish the lead. The Cru continued pushing forward with an 11-1 run to win the set 25-15.
UMHB opened the third set with two unanswered points before the Cowgirls tied it 3-3. The Cru responded with a three-point run to reclaim the high ground. HSU brought the set back within one, but UMHB answered with a five-point run to go back up 17-12. The Cowgirls used a late 7-2 run in the third to tie the set 23-23. UMHB continued to battle it out, finishing the sweep with a 26-24 victory.
Katie Warden led the Cru with 11 kills while
Ella Brunson anchored the offense with 34 assists.
Hannah Frasca recorded a double-double on the night with 22 digs and 10 kills.
Dravyn Hurd led UMHB at the net with four blocks.
UMHB will return to action Saturday, November 11
th at 2:00 p.m. in the ASC Championship in Belton. The Cru will face No. 2 seed East Texas Baptist University. Admission to the tournament is free of charge.
