Women’s Soccer ends season in NCAA First Round

BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team tied Emory University 2-2 through regulation before a 3-0 decision in penalty kicks advanced Emory University during the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament First Round Saturday evening in Belton. 

Mackenzie Worthy gave the Cru a lead in the 29th minute, scoring an unassisted goal to break the drought. Emory responded in the 34th minute with a goal from Emily Woodall before Grace Reyer scored a penalty kick goal in the 38th minute for a 2-1 Emory lead. 

Emory totaled nine first-half shots with four on frame while the Cru put three of four shots on target.  

UMHB evened the contest in the 51st minute when a Crusader corner kick was inadvertently hit by an Emory player into their net for the equalizer. UMHB put up five shots in the second half with two on frame but wasn't able to score again, sending the game into overtime periods tied at two goals each. The contest remained scoreless through extra time and Emory earned the advance going 3-0 in penalty kicks. 

Worthy led the Cru with six shots and four on frame. Natlaie Mason, Ashley Vensel and Kennedy Harris all added two shots each. 

UMHB ended their 2023 campaign with an overall 16-1-2 record and an ASC regular season title. The Cru made their third NCAA Tournament appearance in program history and hosted for the first time this season.
