BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's basketball team extended it's win streak with a 66-52 win over East Texas Baptist University Saturday afternoon in Belton. The win improved the Cru to 7-1 on the season and 3-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the Tigers fell to 2-8 overall and 1-3 in league play.
East Texas Baptist jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first frame before UMHB fought back, closing the gap to just one at the 7:48 mark. The Cru took its first lead of the game off a three-pointer from
Arieona Rosborough at 5:55. UMHB held a short lead until the 2:25 mark when the Tigers knotted the game off a pair of foul shots. Both teams exchanged baskets in the final 1:48 of action, going into the second quarter with a 13-13 tie.
UMHB regained a lead with 8:53 left in the second quarter off another Rosborough basket and held the line through the frame, holding a 31-25 margin at the half. Rosborough led the Cru with 15 first-half points, followed by
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen and
Remi Adeleke each with four.
The Cru took a double-digit lead less than one minute into the second half off a three-pointer by
Jaycie Brisco and a jumper from
Remi Adeleke. The Tigers cut the gap to seven but UMHB responded strong, going into the fourth quarter up by 14 points.
UMHB held strong in the final frame, going up by as many as 20 points in the 66-52 win.
Arieona Rosborough led the Cru with 20 points while
Jaycie Brisco added 13 and
Kaitlyn Kollmorgen put up eight. UMHB shot 36.1 percent in the contest with 22 field goals and five buckets beyond the arc. The Cru out-rebounded the Tigers 47-36, led by
Ashley Faux with nine total boards. Rosborough and Brisco also led the Cru with three assists each while Brisco added a team-high four steals.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, December 14
th in a 5:30 p.m. contest at Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
