MARSHALL, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team split the final day of action in Marshall, dropping a 5-4 decision and earning an 8-0 shutout against SUNY Oneonta. UMHB improved to 11-6 on the season with the win.
Lexi Harris gave UMHB a one-run lead in the first game, stealing home base for a score. The Dragons responded in the bottom of the second inning, scoring one run off a solo home run and two more off an RBI single. The Cru evened the contest in the top of the fourth inning when
Lindsey Polleschultz scored on an RBI from
Bralyn Belk and
Kyler Sanders scored on an RBI single from
Allyse Castillo. Sanders hit in the go-ahead run for the Cru in the fifth inning, scoring
Kaitlin Powers for a 4-3 UMHB lead. SUNY Oneonta responded with a pair of RBI doubles in the sixth and seventh innings to take a 5-4 win over the Cru.
Bryton Wright led the Cru with two hits while four different Crusaders scored runs and three recorded an RBI. UMHB totaled four runs on seven hits with three errors while the Dragons had five runs on 10 hits with no errors.
Kami Flores pitched two innings, allowing three runs with three strikeouts.
Hannah McCallister pitched in relief, throwing 4.1 innings with four hits and two runs allowed.
The Dragons did not have an answer for UMHB's second-game offense as UMHB cruised to an 8-0 shutout.
Izzy Gutierrez scored
Lexi Harris with an RBI double in the first inning, followed by a two-RBI home run from
Bryton Wright.
Kaitlin Powers added the Cru's fourth run in the second inning, scoring off an RBI from
Elissa Elliott. UMHB added two more runs in the third inning, scoring
Bailey Eggleston and
Lindsey Polleschultz. Wright hit her second collegiate home run the fourth inning before slamming an RBI single to score Elliott in the sixth, sealing UMHB's 8-0 run-rule victory.
Wright led the Cru with three hits, four RBI and two runs while
Elissa Elliott,
Izzy Gutierrez and
Allyse Castillo each added two hits. UMHB totaled right runs on 15 hits with eight RBI.
Grason Long earned the win in the circle, throwing six shutout innings with five hits allowed and seven strikeouts.
UMHB closes the six-game stint in Marshall with four wins. The Cru returns to action on Tuesday, March 21
st in a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at Texas Lutheran University before a three-game series against East Texas Baptist University March 24
th – 25
th in Belton.
