SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team edged No. 24 Trinity University 4-3 Tuesday night in San Antonio.
UMHB held the Tigers to just one hit through the first two innings. Trinity was able to load the bases with one out in the third when
Tyler Betts set up a double play flyout to close the inning. The Cru created a 2-0 lead in the next frame with a single up the middle from
Elijah Rodriguez to score
Rhett Grosz and
Hayden Guerin. The Tigers cut the gap down to one, scoring on a wild pitch in the fifth before knotting it up in the next frame with an RBI single.
Carson Hagan reclaimed the lead for UMHB on an RBI from
Hunter Jones in the top of the seventh inning. On the next at-bat Guerin singled up the middle, scoring Betts to bring the Cru up 4-2. The Tigers added one more score in the eighth to bring the contest back within one. UMHB used three flyouts in the final inning to hold the Tigers and claim the 4-3 victory.
Cameron Bogan earned the win for the Cru while
Alex Palczewski claimed the save. UMHB saw seven different pitchers on the mound, recording a team total six strikeouts. The Cru outhit the Tigers 11-7, led by Betts with four hits followed by Guerin with three. UMHB also recorded seven stolen bases on the night, led by Betts with three.
UMHB returns to action March 31

st in a three-game series against LeTourneau University in Belton. The Cru begins play with a single game Friday at 6:00 p.m. followed by a doubleheader at one on Saturday.
