BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team dropped an 8-1 contest to the University of Texas at Dallas Friday evening in Belton.
Bryce Farlander pitched out of a jam in the first inning, stranding a pair of runners to get out of the inning unscathed. Farlander followed that with two more shutout innings before the Comets took a one-run lead in the fourth. UT Dallas had a pair of runners on in the fifth before
Nicklas Fenner entered the game, throwing a strikeout and forcing a double-play to get out of the frame.
UT Dallas added three more runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to extend their margin to five before
Rhett Grosz hit a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to put UMHB on the board.
The Comets added two more runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to take an 8-1 lead.
Kaden deBerardinis,
Rhett Grosz and
Carson Hagan each recorded two hits while
Tyler Betts,
Staton Dudley and
Blake Harmon also hit their way on base. Grosz's single home run was the Cru's only run and RBI of the contest. UMHB totaled one run on nine hits with four errors.
Bryce Farlander took the loss for the Cru. Farlander threw four innings with one unearned run allowed.

Jacob Haynes and
Russell Vadala all pitched in relief.
UMHB returns to action on Saturday, April 15
th in a 12 p.m. doubleheader against the Comets at Red Murff Field in Belton.
