ALPINE, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team swept a doubleheader over Sul Ross State University, recording 33 runs between the two contests. The Cru improved to 25-9 on the season and 19-3 in American Southwest Conference action while the Lobos fell to 10-18 overall and 8-15 in league play.

UMHB opened game one with a three-run frame, starting with a double from
Taylor Holman to score
Blane Simmons and
Lexi Harris.
Bailey Eggleston added one more in the inning with a single to bring Holman home. The Lobos got on the board in the bottom of that same frame with an RBI single.

The Cru responded with an explosive 11-run second inning. The action started with a duo of RBI singles from
Lindsey Polleschultz and
Izzy Gutierrez. With the next at-bat Holman hit a two RBI single to increase the lead to six.
Julia Crofut added three more with a homerun to score
Taylor Henken and Gutierrez.
Elissa Elliott kept the scoring going, heading home on a fielder's choice before Harris singled to left center to score
Blakely Niles. Gutierrez tripled down the right field line to bring Harris and Castillo home and close the half inning ahead 14-1.

UMHB added two more in the third when Niles doubled to right to score Eggleston followed by a run from
Kyler Sanders on a steal home. The Cru recorded their final four runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Bralyn Belk doubled to center field to score
Hannah Sterriker followed by a duo of RBI singles from
Tori Skinner and
Malyn Simmons to create a 19-1 lead. The Cru added their final run of the contest on a Skinner score off a fielder's choice. The Lobos added one more score in the bottom of the fifth before UMHB claimed the 20-2 run-rule victory.

Kami Flores claimed her 14
th win of the season, throwing the first four innings for the Cru. She allowed one run on four hits with a strike out.
Emilee Wade closed the game for UMHB pitching the final inning. Chambers took the loss for the Lobos allowing nine runs on nine hits. UMHB totaled 23 hits and had zero strikeouts. The Cru was led by Harris and Eggleston with three hits each.

UMHB did not hold back in the second game, recording five runs in the first inning. Gutierrez homered to left center to score Polleschultz and Harris before Eggleston hit a two RBI double. The Cru added two more in the second frame with a triple from Eggleston to score Holman and Polleschultz.

The Cru recorded their final five runs in the top of the third inning starting with an RBI double from Harris. Gutierrez and Crofut followed that each hitting a two RBI single. Crofut scored for the final run on an RBI from
Kaitlin Powers.

The Lobos tried to fight back scoring one in the bottom of the third followed by a two-run home run in the fifth. They were unable to bring the game within ten resulting in a second run-rule 13-3 win for the Cru.

Wade earned the win for UMHB, pitching the first four innings, only allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts.
Hannah McCallister threw the final inning for the Cru, allowing two runs on four hits. Montes took the loss for the Lobos, pitching two innings while giving up 13 runs on 15 hits. UMHB totaled 17 hits led by Eggleston with three hits and four RBI.

UMHB will close out the three-game series against SRSU in an 11 a.m. contest Saturday, April 29
th in Alpine.
