LONGVIEW, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Volleyball Team opened American Southwest Conference action with a 3-0 sweep over LeTourneau University in Longview. The Cru improved to 9-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play while the YellowJackets fell to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in league action.
UMHB opened the contest with two back-to-back kills to claim the lead. The YellowJackets knotted up the game 5-5 before the Cru used a 7-1 run to go up 13-7. UMHB recorded a lead as large as seven points in the first set. The YellowJackets brought the game back within two, but UMHB held on to claim a 25-22 win.
The Cru came into the second set strong, taking a 4-0 lead. UMHB kept a consistent lead before using a four-point lead to go up 23-15. LeTourneau tried to make a comeback, scoring four unanswered points, but the Cru closed the set 25-20 with a duo of kills.
The YellowJackets claimed their first lead of the match to open the third set, but the Cru responded with a 6-1 run to takeback the high ground. UMHB continued with a six-point run and cruised to a 25-18 victory to finish the 3-0 sweep.
Hannah Frasca led the Cru with 14 kills while
Natalie Hughes added 11 to UMHB's 53 total. The Cru defense limited the YellowJackets to only 34 kills with 61 digs and seven blocks.
The Cru return to action on Saturday, September 16
th in an 11:00 a.m. contest against East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.
