BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's soccer team shutout LeTourneau University 6-0 Saturday evening in Belton. The Cru improved to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in American Southwest Conference action while the YellowJackets fell to 5-2-3 on the season and 0-1-1 in league play.
UMHB took the lead early with a score from Ashley Vensel on a Jayme Dowell assist in the eighth minute, followed by another Vensel goal on an assist from Natalie Mason four minutes later. The Cru only allowed the YellowJackets two shots in the first half, going into halftime up two goals.
The Cru continued pressing in the second half with a score from Morgen Rathmell at the 52nd minute mark to go ahead 3-0. Vensel completed the hat trick in the 68th minute on a penalty kick to bring the Cru ahead by four. UMHB added two final insurance goals on a Breland Mungia score and an Ella Ruff goal to secure the 6-0 victory.
The UMHB backline only allowed the YellowJackets three shots in the contest, while the Cru recorded 25. Mackenzie Worthy led the Cru in shots with seven, four on frame, while Vensel added four all on goal. Ainsley Westlake and Reagan Williams split time in the goal with one save each.
UMHB returns to action on Thursday, October 5th in a 5:00 p.m. match against Howard Payne University in Brownwood.
